“He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”- Deuteronomy 8:3
God knows that it’s easy to get things turned upside down. Many people begin diets at the start of a new year. They give up excess food to gain better health. But if I can be so bold, I don’t think God wants you to diet in 2021. Rather, I think He wants you to feast.
Let me explain. When God rescued the Israelites from slavery, He brought them to a desert where they lacked easy access to food. Sounds like a diet. But why? The Scriptures are clear–God loves us so much that He will take us to the desert (where there’s no food) to teach us that “man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”
He didn’t want them to diet from food (He gave them manna). Rather, He wanted them to feast on His word.
So don’t diet–feast in 2021. Because this year, River Bend Reads.
