The National Day of Prayer  hosted by  The Fellowship
Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 7:00 pm
22765 Westheimer Pkwy, Katy, TX 77450
The purpose of this gathering is to pray for revival and spiritual awakening in our community and nation. This is an awesome opportunity to display unity among our churches in coming together to pray for West Houston and America. Our theme this year is “Just Jesus.”

Prayer Guide

Praying for our Nation is both a privilege and a responsibility.

In 1 Timothy 2:1-4 Paul instructs us to pray for government leaders and many others. As we pray, we should always pray for the concerns of our nation. Use the following guideline to help you as you pray.

Pray for peace in the world.

Conflict is happening all over the world; pray for peace.

Israel      Yemen      Gaza     Nigeria      Ukraine     Afghanistan     Russia      Lebanon      Myanmar      Pakistan

Pray for our Nation to repent and turn to God.

As Daniel prayed for Israel, we should pray for our nation.

Daniel 9:4-18

And I prayed to the LORD my God, and made confession, and said, "O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and mercy with those who love Him, and with those who keep His commandments, we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments. Neither have we heeded Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings and our princes, to our fathers and all the people of the land. O Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but to us shame of face, as it is this day—to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, those near and those far off in all the countries to which You have driven them, because of the unfaithfulness which they have committed against You. "O Lord, to us belongs shame of face, to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You. To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Him. We have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by His servants the prophets. Yes, all Israel has transgressed Your law, and has departed so as not to obey Your voice; therefore, the curse and the oath written in the Law of Moses the servant of God have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against Him. And He has confirmed His words, which He spoke against us and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great disaster; for under the whole heaven such has never been done as what has been done to Jerusalem. "As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us; yet we have not made our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities and understand Your truth. Therefore, the LORD has kept the disaster in mind, and brought it upon us; for the LORD our God is righteous in all the works which He does, though we have not obeyed His voice. And now, O Lord our God, who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and made Yourself a name, as it is this day—we have sinned, we have done wickedly! "O Lord, according to all Your righteousness, I pray, let Your anger and Your fury be turned away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain; because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people are a reproach to all those around us. Now therefore, our God, hear the prayer of Your servant, and his supplications, and for the Lord’s sake cause Your face to shine on Your sanctuary, which is desolate. O my God, incline Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and see our desolations, and the city which is called by Your name; for we do not present our supplications before You because of our righteous deeds, but because of Your great mercies.

Pray for Families

Here are a few ways you can pray for families:

Pray for protection, guidance, strength, for difficult situations, dependence upon God, and peace.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7; “These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."

Pray for Schools

School should be a place for learning, growth and fun, but that does not seem to be the case anymore. Every day we hear about violence, drugs, crime, bullying, and so many other things. Our schools need prayer.

Pray for school administrators, teachers, and everyone who works at schools.  Pray for the students and their families. Pray for safety, quality learning and inspiration. Today’s students will become tomorrow’s leaders, they need to be prepared.

Pray for Government Leaders

I heard one pastor say, “From the president to the dog catcher, everyone who works in government needs your prayer."

Pray for our national, state, and local leaders.

Ask God to help our leaders on all levels of governments seek Him and His wisdom.

Pray for Churches Across the World

The world is full of churches, but pray that these churches will be full of Jesus. Ask God to help churches stay true to His Word and teach His principles from their pulpits and in their classes. Ask God to give church leaders a passion to reach the unsaved, to disciple those that come to know Him and baptize many. Ask God to keep churches, and the people who attend, safe from harm.

Pray for River Bend

I hope you pray for our church often. Here’s how you can pray for us:

Pray for all our staff and leaders.

Pray for our upcoming VBS.

Always pray for our children and students.

Pray we will love God and love others all the time.

Ask God to continue to protect us and bless us.

Pray we will reach people for Christ here and across the world.

Pray for Missionaries

We have been so blessed to pray and help support missions and ministries across the world.

From the mission emphases we participate in every year, to the people we have sent to the places in the world, we must always pray for missions and missionaries.

Here are a few folks to pray for:

Luke and Maudie Watson who are starting a church in Burnaby, Canada.

Kyle and Alissa Pean as they continue the work in Nuevo De Octubre, Peru.

Sam and Marcie Nicholson, who served in Peru but are home right now receiving medical attention.

Ryan Orbin, who had just become director of Manna House in Brookshire.

Christina White and the ladies at the Boaz House.

Pray for the Salvation of the Lost

I recently heard Dr. Dell Tackett say this and it floored me; “There is a good chance that you might be the only Christian the person living next door to you will only know.”

Not only do we need to pray for those who do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior, we must tell them and show them who He is.

Who should you pray for? Pray for anyone you do not know for sure is a believer in Jesus Christ. Start by thinking about your family and your friends. Who do you need to pray for? Then think about your neighbors or the families which live in your neighborhood. Pray for them. Then begin to think beyond that, pray for people who do not know Jesus, who live in Texas, the US or across the world.

Pray right now for those who do not know Jesus.

Acts 26:18; “To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.”

Prayers

Prayer for First Responders

By Lee Philips

Father, we bow in thanks for our first responders; firefighters, police officers and EMTs. We are grateful for men and women who place themselves between us and dangers.

We pray for their physical safety. We also ask for spiritual and emotional protection for the darkness and misery they witness each day. Bring believers into their lives, and move them through the power of our Spirit, to find hope in Jesus Christ.

We finally pray for their faithfulness to our laws. Give them wisdom, and temper all of their decisions with justice and mercy.

Bless them, we pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for our Nation

By Franklin Graham

Lord, we are thankful for the abundant blessings You have bestowed on America. Our forefathers looked to You as protector, provider and the promise of hope. But we have wandered far from that firm foundation. May we repent for turning our backs on Your faithfulness. We pray that this great nation will be restored by Your forgiveness. From bondage, You grant freedom. Through Your own sacrifice, You offer salvation. From the state of despair, You offer peace. From the bounties of heaven, You have blessed—not because of our goodness—but by Your grace. You have given us freedom to worship You in spirit and in truth as Your holy Word instructs. May our lives honor You in word and deed. May our nation acknowledge that all good things come from the Father above. Amen.

By Tom Irwin

On this day designated for prayer for our nation, let us first be thankful to our God and national leaders for establishing such a day.  Let us also consider three precursors to our prayers.  First, we have been created by God who loves us and desires our well-being. Second, we live in a nation and world consumed by sin of which we are active participants. Third, as those whom our Creator God has challenged to pray today, let us come to Him not judging our neighbor or brother, or people on opposing sides of the vast political spectrum whom we love to critique, but as men and women who in repentance desperately need God and desire Him to heal the sin in our own lives before He can heal the nation we love.

Abraham Lincoln, who established this first day of prayer and fasting in 1863, did so at the height of the greatest crisis our nation has ever faced.   He had come to know his Creator and Savior personally through repentant faith, and had also come to believe that God fashions and works through nations that He has established for His own glory.

As we pray today and possibly fast, let us consider the prayer of President Lincoln, offered many years ago, as relevant today as it was in his day.

“Almighty God, Who has given us this good land for our heritage; We humbly beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor and glad to do Thy will. Bless our land with honorable ministry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people, the multitude brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endow with Thy spirit of wisdom those whom in Thy name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to Thy law, we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth. In time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in Thee to fail; all of which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

As God blesses your time of prayer and fasting, let us all purpose to seek God each day asking Him to give us strength to walk rightly and opportunity to share with others the message of the gospel which transforms lives and nations.

May God richly bless your time of prayer and fasting.

Prayer of Thanksgiving for God's Word and Work

By Charlie Blansit

Our LORD and heavenly Father, I lift up your holy name and give you praise, and honor, and glory. You, O LORD, are the only true and living God, and there is no other. I thank you, LORD, for supernaturally revealing yourself to humanity through your eternal and sanctifying Word. Your words contain mercy, and salvation, and life in abundance, but, LORD, our nation, which once acknowledged you and abided under your words, has now drifted far from them. Our hearts are so very far from you because we no longer value the your wisdom that is able to guide us along paths of righteousness. We have forsaken your holiness and have profaned your name. O, LORD, be merciful unto us, and create in us a new heart. Write your words on our hearts, so that we might live according to your precepts and principles. Place a desire in our people to turn to your Holy Word for wisdom, truth, and righteousness. Establish your name among our people, and help us, O LORD, to be holy unto you, and walk according to your divine and righteous will. Hear, my plea, O LORD, that our nation would turn from wickedness and learn to live and love according to your eternal Word. Father, teach us your ways, and help us to follow only you and live our lives to your glory. For you alone deserve all of the honor, and praise, and glory forever, and you alone are the only true and wise King over all creation. Help us to be a special people, a royal priesthood of believers, help us to shine the light of your word upon this world. Please forgive our sins, and teach us to desire the things you love, and abhor the things you hate. O LORD, you alone are worthy of all praise, and you alone are the only Savior to which we may turn, our help can come from nowhere else. Please save us and establish your word in our people. I humbly ask all of these things in your HOLY NAME, amen!

Prayer for Lost Friends

By Earl Turner

Please Lord, open the hearts and minds of those who don't know You. Help them see that You are the Creator of everything and that He loves them more than they can ever imagine. Help them see that He sent His son, Jesus, to live with us, teach us how to live and then Jesus died for our mistakes, called sins which we are all guilty of, and was raised from the dead which gives us hope.

Give them the wisdom to seek Him diligently and ask Him to reveal Himself. He inspired the writing of the Bible to help us all get to know Him and share our lives with Him.

In Jesus name, Amen.

Prayer for Families

By Tricia Irwin

In the beginning, God created families. From the very dawn of creation, He formed a man and a woman, made in His image, and gave them the commission to be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth. Families are the heart and foundation of our civilization, the very core, and are held in high honor by God, our heavenly Father, being ordained by Him. The love of husbands for their wives, and parents for their children model the love God has for us, His covenant people, in His Son Jesus Christ. It is no wonder these vital relationships are under attack by the enemy of our souls. For this reason, we must be all the more diligent to pray for our fathers and mothers, children and grandparents, husbands and wives. We do battle with the spiritual forces of wickedness when we lift these relationships up to Him in prayer. As Nehemiah wrote when faced with enemies while rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem, “…Remember the Lord who is great and awesome, and fight on behalf of your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your families.” (Nehemiah 4:14b) So, let us pray.

Our great and awesome God, who is also our loving and compassionate Father, we thank You and praise You for the way You have wisely set us in families. Thank You for creating us with this need for fellowship and meeting that need from the very beginning.

We acknowledge that we haven’t always recognized and valued our families the way we should, nor have we recognized the great gift You gave us in providing our specific family members. We have not valued our marriages even though it is a holy relationship established from the very beginning while our first parents still lived in Eden. We have not honored and respected our fathers and mothers, made in Your image, and placed in authority over our homes. We have not valued the children You graciously provide even though You have told us they are Your heritage and a reward from You. We have not been careful to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and many times we have been too involved with our own lives to listen to what our little ones have to say. And many times, we have been too busy for our elderly family members, too, even though You have blessed them with long life and blessed us by their presence over many years. For all these things, Father, please forgive us and help us to take to heart Your wise instructions on these matters that we may both honor You and represent You in this broken world.

O Lord, we pray that husbands will love their wives as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her that He might present to Himself a spotless bride. May our husbands view their wives through this lens and seek their good, that they might grow in grace. May they live with their wives in understanding ways as Peter wrote and be tender and patient with them. May husbands lead their wives and the children God blessed them with in godliness and confidence. May they remember the spirit of power, love and self-control that You have given. May they protect their wives from danger, both physical and spiritual. May they walk in their God-given role as leaders of the family.

And Lord, we pray that the wives among us would love and respect their husbands, that the words that come from their mouths be words for building up, not tearing down. May our wives truly be the helpers fit for them that You ordained them to be. May our wives be gentle and quiet in their spirits and seek the good of their husbands and families every day, all their days.

May you please give special grace to parents as they raise their children. Free them from anxiety, from fear, from being too busy and from depression. Free them from the wiles of the devil who seeks only to steal, kill and destroy. O Lord, may they find and walk in the abundant life that You give to Your followers. Please help our busy, young parents to have time in Your word, a quiet time alone with You for the filling and renewing of their minds.

For our children, Lord, we pray for willing, humble hearts, hearts that come to faith in You at a young age. We pray for protection for them, protection from those who would harm them and protection from the lies of our culture. We pray they would have friends who would influence them for good and that they, too, would influence others for good. We pray for they would have caring and honorable teachers and that they would grow in wisdom, and stature, and favor with God and men, even as Luke wrote of our Savior Jesus Christ.

We pray, too, O Lord, that we would each come alongside to help families who are struggling, men reaching out to men, women reaching out to women, the family of God nurturing and loving our brothers and sisters. Let us not turn a blind eye or be too busy for the needs of others. You are never blind to us or too busy to hear our cries. Let us model ourselves after You, our great Father.

And finally, O Lord, please turn the hearts of children to their fathers and fathers to their children. May healing take place in every broken heart and your Kingdom be represented here in our homes even as it is in heaven.

In the blessed name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen!
